Open Lecture – Custom and Tax duties for all Lao Citizens

With the support from ILSTA, Mr Souliyanh Lounchantha, Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law and Political Science and Head of the Clinical Legal Education Program gave an Open Lecture on Custom and Tax duties for all Lao citizens on 10 May. The lecture was very interactive and well attended as Mr Souliyanh explained the theories behind taxation and custom duties. The presentation gave a good overview of the different taxes, both direct and indirect taxes applied in Laos were covered, and allowed participants to reflect on the reasons behind different forms of taxes. Opportunities and current challenges in the Lao tax system were also covered. Judging from the lively discussion that occurred the lecture was highly appreciated.
