The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, University of Luxembourg with the Faculty of Law and Political Science, National University of Laos organised its first “Law Summer School” dedicated to legal research in Vang Vieng on 22nd-24th of October. Twelve selected candidates from the FLP attended this new type of research seminar. The Summer School included lectures such as “Foundations of law”, “Interdisciplinary methods in Law” as well as discussions on “How to develop a relevant legal research strategy” and “Opportunities for publication for Lao researchers in Law” and presentation by each Lao teacher participating. Participants publicly presented their research projects in English and were given feedback and guidance by a panel from the University of Luxembourg including Pr. Stefan Braum, Dr. Perrine Simon (Liaison Officer), Dr. Relja Radovic and Ms. Nicole Citeroni and Ms. Loren Jolly. The selected topics were all very important for Lao PDR, and relating to environment and foreign investments, legal aid, access to justice as well as family and labour law. Candidates engaged in active discussion with their peers for the first time. This fruitful experience shall be renewed next year!
