The Lao Customs Department and ILSTA jointly organized a training course in criminal investigation held in Vientiane province 21st November- 1st December 2022. The course was opened by Somphin Inthavong, Deputy Director of Training, Lao Customs Department and Richard Philippart, President of the Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance (ILSTA)
The course comprised 29 participants from the Lao Customs Department, the Office of Supreme People’s Prosecutor, the Police Department and the Counter Narcotics Police. The training centered around a practical case study of a human trafficking and money laundering syndicate operating in Lao PDR and Thailand.
Participants investigated the case from the initial source of information to identifying and investigating all the criminal entities involved.
Additional specialised training modules in specific areas such as narcotics, wildlife and money laundering have been developed to complement and expand on the training offered in this fundamental investigation course delivered by ILSTA.
