Between May 23rd and 27th, ILSTA attended the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ) in Vienna. The CCPCJ is the principal policymaking body of the United Nations in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice and offers Member States a forum for exchanging expertise, experience, and information in order to develop national and international strategies, and to identify priorities for combating crime.
During the CCPCJ, the Global Action against Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (GloACT) was presented. GloACT is a 4-year joint initiative by the European Union and UNODC that forms part of a joint response to trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants and will be delivered in 15 countries, with the Lao PDR being one of them. The initiative will focus on assistance to governmental authorities, civil society organisations, victims of trafficking, and smuggled migrants.
