The regional grouping of ASEAN will become an Economic Community from 2016 hosted by Laos, its only land-locked member. In this lecture on December 22, John Connolly and Alounna Khamhoung explored the history and evolution of the law of the sea up to the signing of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and looked at its economic and political relevance to the fast-growing ASEAN region, as well as some of the issues and challenges involved.
