Institute for Legal Support and Technical Assistance, in cooperation with the People’s Supreme Court, organised a workshop on the amendment to the law on civil procedure and writing court decisions, chaired by Mr Bounkhouang Thavisack, Vice President of the Supreme People’s Court of Lao PDR, Mr Somphit Chinnichack, President of the People’s Appellate Court of the Southern Region and Mr John Connolly, Director of ILSTA. The workshop was organised in Pakse city and brought more than 75 judges from 9 central and southern provinces, including Vientiane Capital, Vientiane Province, Bolikhamxay, Khammouane, Savannakhet, Salavan, Sekong, Champasack and Attapeu province.
The presentations on money laundering and the predicate offence, introduction to the financing of terrorism and writing court judgement were delivered by Mr Kieth Farquaharson, ILSTA Expert and Mr John Connolly, ILSTA Director. The presentations were followed by an interactive Q&A session which led to a lively discussion among the attendees and legal experts.
The workshop focuses on establishing a consensus on the amendment to the law on the civil procedure, strengthening judges’ skills in writing court decisions and making the judgment expeditious, accurate, fair and uniform throughout the country.
